Punch ‘n’ Judy

After hearing Punch ‘n’ Judy perform at the Elf Fantasy Fair I had their songs stuck in my head and as a result just had to get their albums.

The albums sound good and I don’t really have anything bad to say about them apart from some the singing being off-key in some songs (Luckily only for short periods of time).

The Cobblestones

Came across The Cobblestones while listening to Punch ‘n’ Judy songs on MySpace (That was the only place I could listen to them), I like folk music and figured I’d just buy them. I don’t have much to say about their music, it just sounds good and well made.

Darius – Ergosphere

I was pleasantly surprised when I listened to the album, I incorrectly recalled Darius as being ambient music, however it is actually experimental techno which I like far more than ambient.

Album sounds good and professionally produced, has nice variety between songs and also works well as background music.

The Quick Brown Fox – Brutal Rhythm Rider

When I first downloaded this album I was of the opinion that most of the songs were too over the top for my taste, BPM was just too high and it felt too chaotic and noisy to be enjoyable.

However after listening to it a few times I’ve grown accustomed to the album and have to say it’s actually quite good, the songs are enjoyable to listen to and in the end the high BPM isn’t that disturbing.

They were playing doctor, he, the girl and her brother. The mother says she found her daughter with her skirt and underpants around her ankles and the boy sitting underneath her penetrating her with his finder. Yet the girl herself says he only touched her on the outside of her body. There’s also an unconfirmed claim that would explain why the boy saw this as “What doctors do”, as that he apparently had some sort of (ongoing) medical condition that required rectal examinations.

This all is blown out of proportion thanks to the girl’s father being some kind of well known political figure in Grant County. Perhaps someone went powermad and this is the result.

Although the boy, now 7, is too young to be prosecuted or named in a juvenile delinquency petitition, Madison.com reports, county officials are using the felony charge to force his parents into accepting “protection or services” for him. The lawsuit says that once he turns 18, he will be listed as a sex offender.

Apparently the person prosecuting has a severe lack of logical reasoning, not only is this kid way too young to even know what sexual assault is but is now also psychologically damaged thanks to this whole ordeal.

The boy, who is now 7 and has a developmental disability, has been diagnosed with stress disorders that medical professionals attribute to the defendants’ actions, according to the suit. He has experienced fear of going to jail, as well as anxiety, depression, sleepless nights, vomiting, crying and missed school time.

Luckily the boy’s parents are suing and trying to get Lisa Riniker (The D.A. that charged the boy) dismissed from her position as D.A, plus to dismiss any charges against him.

I’ve been reading dozens and dozens of stories about people having issues with Battlefield 3: getting triple billed, unable to activate or unable to join games. These are all serious problems and I hope that EA fixes them and prevents them in the future Knowing EA the prevention wont happen), however you only ever hear the bad stories.

In my case I bought Battlefield 3 on Friday, went home, downloaded and installed it. Launched Battlelog, joined a server and started playing. Servers are a bit glitchy left and right, and sometimes lag a bit but other than that it’s smooth sailing.

I really hope everyone that is having problems gets them resolved ASAP. I figured I’d also show that it isn’t fucked up for everyone.

Suddenly 2 minutes later a bright flash, and I find myself back at the station wondering what just happened…

I’m sure most of the people in null-sec have had this happen a few times now, we’re of course talking about the lag. With the battles we had yesterday I had my first encounter with serious lag.

now instead of ranting about it and bashing CCP I’ll try to analyze the problem and come with possible solutions.

The Problem

The main problem that lag is occurring currently is the processing power of the servers not being sufficient, from the information I have received about this from various sources it seems that currently the server code isn’t multi-threaded, meaning that it can only utilize 1 core/CPU.

Now at the moment the servers probably run on a single-core CPU that’s clocked around 3-4ghz, now compare that with the current Quad and even Octo-core CPUs, with those they could achieve about twice/triple the amount of processing power then they have currently (And you can even put 2 CPUs on a single motherboard further increasing the processing power).

Solution 1: Change mechanics to small gangs

This isn’t a solution I’m too fond of but I have heard it around the forums, though I have no idea what could be done to implement such a thing.

Changing the mechanics to favor small gang warfare and perhaps even make it impossible to form large gangs should solve the lag, however this is evading the problem rather than solving it, and I like my big blobs.

Pros

• No lag

Cons

• No more big gang warfare
• Problem isn’t solved, just evaded

Solution 2: Rewrite server code for threading

This solution would hugely increase the processing power the EVE servers would have and it could possibly even shift the bottle-neck to a different part of the server (Thinking about the bandwidth here), however there are some bumps in the road:

• Stability – This changes would require a lot of code to be rewritten (Depending on how the current code is written), which means a lot of bugs may and will arise. It might take CCP months to squash all the bugs this new change would bring.
• Time – As there’s a lot to rewrite and test it’s gonna take time, and a lot. Meaning CCP can’t focus that much on other things, however I’d rather see no expansions for a year and them finishing this then the other way around.

Pros

• No more lag until fleet fights get big enough to encounter the next bottleneck
• We can keep our big fleet fights

Cons

• Lot’s of time involved in implementation and testing
• Server will be unstable for a while
• Possibly no expansions for a while

Now I can’t think of a lot of other solutions, as this seems to cover it quite well.
