Tyrannis: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

By Xeross Posted in EVE Online, News & Stuff Leave a Comment

EVE Online: Tyrannis

So Tyrannis finally hit 5 minutes before I started writing this post, at a glance there were a view things I noticed, here’s a quick run-down of what I found out about the new expansion so far.

The Good

Not a lot of interesting stuff here, but I’ll list it anyways.

  • Trusted URLs are fixed, they are now working with websites on non-default ports again – It’s something but not that major, yet every bug fixed is one.
  • EVE Gate – Out of game calendar and mail, awesome.

The Bad

  • Lag hasn’t been fixed – nothing in the patch notes says otherwise, which is a shame.
  • EVE Gate – okay calendar and mail cool. But other than that it’s pretty meh-ish

The Ugly

  • The contacts screen has been revamped the you can filter on standings – Okay, nice. But ehm where are my contact folders, this way it’s almost impossible to organize properly.
  • Contacts screen pt. 2 – They’ve added a limit of 300 people in your contacts list
  • POSs are shooting everyone including in some cases corp mates

I will stand by what has been said before: Make the next expansion fix EVE not add more broken content.

Tyrannis & Spacebook

By Xeross Posted in EVE Online, News & Stuff Leave a Comment

EVE Online: Tyrannis

So as I haven’t really blogged about the latest expansion yet and the servers are currently being upgraded (Which causes more people reading blogs out of boredom) I decided it’s time for my post about the new expansion.

Possible lag fixes

Though I couldn’t find any solid news on this I hope the rumors of it being fixed (Or atleast improved) are true and we will be able to play with less lag.

Spacebook (AKA EVE Gate)

The web-based portal to EVE Online, out of game mail checking and calendar checking will be useful, only thing I also would’ve wanted was a possibility to use in-game chat channels out of game.

Fixes to some game mechanics

Fixes to logoffski tricks, deep safe creation and usage and most importantly insurance payouts, let this make Suicide Ganking a profession again instead of we’ll make a profit if we blow up anyway.

Now we’ll just need to wait and see if the actual expansion matches our expectations, if it does they’re going a step in the right direction. But please CCP make the next expansion the GUI and lag fixing expansion, we need it, badly.

Yes planetary interaction isn’t listed as I’m not too excited for it, it’s useful for POS fuel but that’s about it for me.

Broken motherboard, new shinies

By Xeross Posted in Diary, Personal Leave a Comment

So a few days ago I bought an internal network card, after installing it Windows failed to pick it up, after this I tried it on my brother’s PC and it worked just fine. To be sure I swapped it with another card of the same model and tried again, same result.

This led to the conclusion that my motherboard was broken, and as I really wanted to get rid of the horror that is USB WiFi sticks I decided to buy a new one.

With this purchase I would need new DDR3 Internal Memory (As my old motherboard only supported DDR2), and my case was also pretty busted so I replaced that too, a quick list of the new shinies acquired:

So after this I had to reinstall Windows because it doesn’t like when you suddenly give it a new motherboard. That’s all done again, I’m slowly but surely installing all my software again but the most important things are installed again (EVE and my Dev Tools).

Well that’s it for this post.

Ship Fit: Dual Large Shield RR Osprey (Cap Stable)

Ship Fit: Active Shield Ratting Raven

By Xeross Posted in EVE Online, Fittings, Good Fittings Comments (2)

Another fitting, tried and tested, it works fine on belt rats, and it should also be able to complete the hardest anomalies (Drone Hordes for example).

however for that you need a lot of level 5 shield and capacitor skills (Or you can use it in conjunction with a Dual Large Shield RR Osprey).

[Raven, Ratting Active Shield]
Capacitor Flux Coil II
Capacitor Flux Coil II
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II

X-Large Clarity Ward Booster I
Shield Boost Amplifier I
Shield Boost Amplifier I
Invulnerability Field II
Invulnerability Field II
Photon Scattering Field II

‘Arbalest’ Cruise Launcher I, Paradise Cruise Missile
‘Arbalest’ Cruise Launcher I, Paradise Cruise Missile
‘Arbalest’ Cruise Launcher I, Paradise Cruise Missile
‘Arbalest’ Cruise Launcher I, Paradise Cruise Missile
‘Arbalest’ Cruise Launcher I, Paradise Cruise Missile
‘Arbalest’ Cruise Launcher I, Paradise Cruise Missile
Salvager I
Small Tractor Beam I

Large Capacitor Control Circuit I
Large Capacitor Control Circuit I
Large Capacitor Control Circuit I

Acolyte II x5
Infiltrator II x5

And if you have the skills for it and you don’t need the salvager/tractor beam you can swap the SBA’s for tech 2 ones, and swap the Clarity Ward for a T2 shield booster

Gosho’s Mining Adventure: Day 5

By Xeross Posted in EVE Online, Gosho's Mining Adventure, Guest Posts Comments (1)

Gosho's Mining Adventure

I decided to do an experiment. A skilled mining toon with an empty wallet and only a new Velator and the pimp civilian mining laser. How much money can I get in a week. 1 hour each day.

I undocked and warped to my belt. The ore here has my stamp on it. Seems like I’ve mined most of the Scordite out so I switch to Plagioclase.

AND AWAY I GO. 5 minutes have past and its all quiet. I like quiet it makes the time go by faster. The 10 minute mark hits and everything is still quiet. The 15 minute mark arrives and I decide to go dock up and get the iteron.

I think I will have enough for that covetor. I dock up with the iteron and the hopefully last batch I will have to mine in this navitas and the numbers are in. DRUMROLL. I need 300 thousand more.

I jump in my navitas look around and I realize its the last time I will fly in this ship. We had some times didnt we? Blew up an armada of guristas pirate newbies, and mined a ton of minerals.

I warp to my belt and proceed to mine Scordite. I will keep my hobgoblin from the Navitas thats for sure. Thats 1 good drone right there. As I remember the good times the 30 minute hits. I think I have gathered the money and I quickly dock up and get my iteron to haul the last haul.

I get the money I need and proceed to get my procuror. 6 jumps away. I have 20 minutes left. My pod feels very slow and now I have 15 minutes left. 2 jump out. I dock up in Sirppala and get my new ship. Ain’t she just a beauty. A brand new procuror.

I have 10 minutes left and head right back I want to mine some before I finish for today. I am 6 jumps out of Kausaaja. I enter Kausaaja in my new procuror and I’m very happy.

I even have 5 minutes to make a mining run. The clock strikes that time and it is time for me to dock. Another jump in progress and day 6 will be even more profitable then today. My current balance is 110 thousand isk.

Editors Note:
Unfortunately this was the last that was heard from our hero Gosha Mecha, what has happened to him is unknown, let’s hope he one day returns unscathed and finishes what he started

Recent Ventures

By Xeross Posted in Diary, Personal Comments (2)

I’ve taken a break from EVE for a few days now, other then changing skills and having done 30 minutes of ratting the belts the EVE client has remained pretty much closed.

Not that I don’t like EVE any more but as some others the passion to play has died out for now, partially because I can’t be bothered to “look for enjoyment” at the moment, and partially because I’ve been programming with newly found passion lately.

Now I will continue keeping my EVE accounts active and will check back every now and then but for now I’m enjoying myself more with other means and various single player games.

I’ve been working almost non-stop on a game engine I’m creating together with a friend, we already had the plan of creating a 2d MMO for some time now but until recently we had to rely on 3rd party engines that just didn’t cut it.

So we have started creating our own engine in C++ he currently has some of the graphics rendering done and I’m busy writing the networking code, so far I’ve made more progress then I anticipated but still a lot of work has to be done.

And next to that I’m also working on implementing some crucial features into my CMS, fundamental features such as user password resets and password/email changing.

Well that’s it for this update on my current ventures, hope you enjoyed reading it.

The 5th CSM Elections

By Xeross Posted in EVE Online, News & Stuff Leave a Comment

For some odd reason I ended up on the council elections page, and as I still have hope for the CSM I decided to take a look through the participants, but it seems there aren’t a lot of participants that have their entry properly worked out.

So far I’ve seen Mynxee and Ankhesentapemkah have the longest entry texts, now now bigger isn’t always better but there’s also people that don’t have any text or website at all.

Well I guess we’ll see how it turns out once the voting has ended (And perhaps these people are still preparing their campaign text),  I just hope that we get the right people in the CSM.

Well that’s about it for my comments on the election (Until the voting has ended), good luck to all candidates, and may the best win.

Update(6-May-2010): It seems interviews and additional info is appearing, time to read through all the info soon.

Gosho’s Mining Adventure: Day 4

By Xeross Posted in EVE Online, Gosho's Mining Adventure, Guest Posts Leave a Comment

Gosho's Mining Adventure

I decided to do an experiment. A skilled mining toon with an empty wallet and only a new Velator and the pimp civilian mining laser. How much money can I get in a week. 1 hour each day.

I undock this fine day(or night depending where you are) and warp to my belt. Oh belt IV – 1 I know thee well. We’ve had so many adventures featuring pirates. Speaking of pirates they seem to be waiting for me with a welcoming gift. 2 of their more junior members engage me as soon as I drop out of warp. Silly new guys they haven’t heard about my hobgoblin.

I release the beast out of his cage and lets just say they wont be bothering anyone. I lock up a Scordite ore and start taking it part by part from space to a can. That’s some productive stuff. So much excitement and we have barely hit minute 5. This is going to be an interesting day.Great success occurs as I mine out another ore.

God damn I’m a mining monster. Today I am the destroyer of ore it seems 2 different ores in 5 minutes. The 10 minute mark hits and after it the 15 mark and its all quiet flying. Just mind numbing mining. I’ve gathered a good supply of Scordite now and I go to drop it off.

I jump in my Iteron and I am back at the speed of 2 shakes of a lambs tail (not very fast). The 20 minute mark hits and I have moved my Scordite to the station.

I undock in my Navitas and warp back in. As I drop warp another 2 Guristas pirate rejects warp in with me. Good news is that there are 2 more mining barges and they seem to like them better then me. That’s good at least I’m fed up of being the sheriff around these parts.

My colleagues in mining deal with the devils rejects quickly and we continue on our interesting and thrilling endeavour  of mining. The 30 minute mark hits the last 10 minutes spent on mining ore. I decide to go and load off.

While I haul my ore the 35 minute mark hits. I warp back to the belt with my Navitas, back to mining. The 40 minute mark hits and I’m almost half done.I have some new friends on the belt maybe fans of my work with those Guristas earlier come to see me mine. Yeah I bet that’s it. They like my style.

My daydreaming seems to accelerate time and the 50 minute mark hits totally skipping the 45 mark. I continue throwing ore in my can and I am getting ready for my last haul for day 4.

I have 5 minute left of day 4 and its HAULING TIME. I finish my hauling and dock up. IT’S PROFIT TIME. My wallet updates flashes andIam RICHY RICH HERE. I’ve got 2 milion 244 thousand isk. That means I can buy my procuror in the middle of day 5.
